16 must -sees in Słupsk
  1. The Town Hall
    Over 100 years old Town Hall these days is occupied by local government. However it still has a lot of extraordinary spots within. How old is the wall paper in Mayor’s office? Does the lucky bear really brings you luck? These are just few questions which no doubt you will find an answer for during your visit.
  2. The New Gate
    New Gate from XIV century was not only a simple gate over the centuries, it had a lot of other functionalities such as weaving workshops, military workshops, museum and a prison. At one stage local trams made their way through the gate.
  3. The Mill Gate
    The Mill Gate was one of three gates surrounding Słupsk in XIV century. The gate was meant to protect the town in case of war. Sadly in XIV century it was destroyed by The Red Army and it was only rebuilt in 1980 to reflect the look as it was before the war.The Castle Mill
    The Castle Mill is the oldest industrial venue in the country. It was built before the castle on duchy land as a water Mill in first half of XIV. Currently The Mill is available for visitors where you can learn much more about our region’s history.
    The Pomeranian Dukes’ Castle

    If it wasn’t for Boguslaw X (looking at us from the monument by the entrance to the castle), Słupsk could not commend Castle of The Dukes of Pomerania. It used to be a gothic building which then later turned into renaissance venue. It is yet another place with hidden past of town. You will be pleasantly surprised to see the world’s biggest art collection of Witkacy.
  4. The Museum of the Middle Pomerania
    One of the most important stops during our visit through the Castle is a room representing Gryfits dynasty that used to governed across the Baltic region and controversial art collection of S.I Witkacy. With a bit of luck we might be able to see a ghost of princess Anna de Croy walking across the corridors…
  5. The Richter’s Granary / Tea Room
    Lovely cup of tea from around the world? Why not in Słupsk. In Tea Room located in Richter’s granary you can sense the aroma from various parts of the world as soon as you walk through the door. As an interesting fact, you might want to know that this building was located in totally different part of town. It took four years (1994-1998) to move it across to where it is today.
  6. The Witches Tower / Gallery / Trina Papisten / Town walls
    A story of sentenced and burned alive witch in Słupsk named Trina Papisten can be learned from one of few in Poland witches tower. It became part of the town walls in XV century. Currently it is a home for Baltic Modern Art Gallery.
  7. The Old Post Office / Łukasiewicza Street / post cards / Heinrich von Stephan
    Did you know that a person that created the first post card ever was born and lived in Słupsk? Yes, that’s right. It’s Heinrich von Stephan, reformer of world’s post office has never forgotten about his roots and as a general postmaster has opened first
    post office in Słupsk which has remained open since then.
  8. The Tram/ Nowobramska Street
    It is not so common knowledge that trams route used to run via Nowobramska Street. In order to remember this fact there is now a restored tram that is placed near by New Gate.
  9. The Culture and Leisure Park / The Southern Woods / Three Ponds /
    Monument of the Executed labourers The Culture and Leisure Park is the biggest complex of parks in Słupsk. 9 ha of green sport and recreation grounds are called „Green Lunge of Town”. This park leads to Southern Woods – one of the most popular recreation places visited by the locals. It’s mainly due to the cycle path that leads through the woods. It is an perfect place for cycling, roller skating or jogging. Southern Woods is also a place where you will find a monument in the memory of the polish and russian captives and forced labourers killed in the woods.
  10. The First Citizens of Słupsk Square / “Humiliated man” monument
    No far away from the town hall you will find a First Citizens of Słupsk Square. It is a square full of beautiful plants and flowers with a Flower Clock in the middle. The clock was made out of 20.000 plants provided by the local garden centre. You will also find there a “Humiliated man” monument which represents a man saddened by the future of his country.
  11. “Poranek” bar and the oldest pizzeria in Poland
    “Poranek” (eng. Morning) bar and next door pizzeria are cultural venues not only for Słupsk but also for the whole country. Would you like to know why? It is because this pizzeria is the oldest pizza restaurant in Poland. It is a place where you can try pizza made since over 40 years ago.
  12. The Warsaw Insurgents Memorial
    Not everybody knows that first memorial of Warsaw Uprising heroes was made in Słupsk. Our town was not chosen to make a memorial by accident. It is because during that time there was a large wave of people, especially forced labourers that were moved from Warsaw to Słupsk.
  13. “Open Head” monument / Otto Freundlich
    In the back of the Town Hall is located small but really nice park named after Otto Freundlich. As you walk through it you will find a first ever made a European Road of Peace sculpture called „Open road”. It is a part of the project that is meant to connect West with East and North with South of Europe. The sculpture was made in Słupsk as that’s where the artist, Otto Freundlich, was born.
  14. The St. Cross evangelical-lutheran church
    The St. Cross evangelical-lutheran church was built in neo-gothic in 1857. It was one of the first ones in Europe where Lutherans could pray and teach. It is also the largest non-Catholic church in Słupsk.
  15. Saint Mary’s Church / Leaning Tower
    You will be pleased to know that Słupsk has its own leaning tower. It is a tower of St. Mary’s church built in XIV century. It is leaned 89 centimeters from the straight line. The interesting fact is that the head of the tower has been badly damaged in a
    huge fire cross the town in 1945 and it was only rebuilt couple of years ago
  16. Art Nouveau – the route
    Słupsk before the war was called Northern Paris. Buildings, beautifully decorated elevations can be still seen across Sienkiewicza street or Wojska Polskiego street. Take a nice walk across the town and sense it’s atmosphere.
